Net results of weekend, in spite of my feeling blah and down at the moment: Awesome.

Got some cleaning stuff done.

Got my trash out - I missed it last time, so. >:p

Got my alarm set for 5! I have twice failed to get up at that time, except to slap the alarm off, but I have started with the slow changing of my schedule. Yay?

Saw Wicked! SO MUCH FUN. I love it and I want to go again and I wish I'd had money for a souvenir, but I spent money I shouldn't have to go see it in the first place. So, the program and my ticket is all I've kept.
So. Awesome. XD

Not enough: writing, still more cleaning, and writing. I will never get anywhere with this if I keep lying in bed feeling down about stuff. :/

Still not looking forward to work tonight. -.-

So it turned out I couldn't make it one more night, because even though I was doing what she wanted, she blew up on me again.

Now we get to have a meeting some time after lunch, with management and everything, and get everything out in the open.

Maybe I'll get lucky and have a heart attack during.

Cross your fingers?

ETA: Were fingers crossed? It seemed so to me, the damn meeting got canceled or forgotten or I don't know. Reprieve! And maybe she'll be sane again by my monday, although I'm not crossing my fingers.

In the meantime, got some delicious lasagna to cook for dinner tonight, and cherries and strawberry cookies for now.

*deep breaths*

So I just had a horrible day - someone who I thought I could trust turned on me. I cried a lot at work, in fact spent the rest of the night crying, more or less. Now I just feel... worn out. I don't even know how I'm going to be able to work with this person tomorrow.

I want a new job so much. Or even just. Anything, so I don't have to worry anymore. I am so tired of caring about shit, it always lets me down. And I let me down.

I just don't want to. I just want it to stop.

ETA: okay, have had a chance to calm down. Also I have purchased a ticket to see Wicked on Tuesday! Which makes things better. Now, for sleeping.

Because one of my unwritten goals is posting more - and because the results are ridiculous and someone else might as well have a laugh.

Pick up the nearest book to you.
Turn to page 45.
The first sentence describes your sex life in 2012.

"The court and noble families had lavish temples and religious establishments built as symbols of their power."

Book is The Art and Culture of Japan by Abrahms Discoveries.

A belated Happy New Year! And general updatingness.

I have a new computer. It is the shiniest and most awesome and I am horribly biased. But it's 6 gig of memory and 1 TB of hard drive and soooo shiny. *sparkly eyes go here*

Yuletide this year was pretty awesome, I did better than I have in awhile, I think. And I had fun, and it's been too long since I had fun writing. I was crazy with the firsts this year, too, I added... *counts* 3 or maybe 4 new fandoms I have written for, depending on how separate you think book and film fandoms are.

Yuletide:

For Want Of A Horse My first Discworld! Moist von Lipwig and a town some people might recognize.

Yuletide Madness:

tempering exile My first His Dark Materials! Iorek is the most awesome, don'tchaknow.

on the way My first Dark Crystal. :) Aughra is awesome, as is Kira. I always knew I liked Aughra, but I didn't notice how much I liked Kira until I was writing this.

an exchange of problems This is the book vs film fandom, and while my knowledge of the film has influenced it somewhat, it's def. the book. And the book - Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIHM - is much better. And the prompt was fantastic, I could not resist.

upon a dream My first Princess Tutu! I love Rue and Ahiru and the vauge yin-yang thing between them.

And now we come to the only fandom I'd written before. XD Two for Samurai Troopers:

in the sea of the sky It's meant to be a steampunk au, but reads just as well as a spaceship one apparently. *shifty eyes* This might have something to do with the fact that I was entirely faking it re. steampunk, I had only the vaguest idea that it involved shiny airships, I was totally relying on my knowledge of and love for Troopers to pull that off. And it worked! :D

Of course, now the idea won't leave me alone and I am learning more about steampunk to try and do this justice, but I make no promises because I don't want to disappoint anyone, including me.

pinata This is the last thing I wrote, in the frantic moments of waiting for the Madness archive to go live, and and. And it's crack. But it's happy crack! :D

So, all total, 7 fics! And counting the 5 things I wrote for kh_drabble over the year, that makes 12 things I wrote. ...I think that's all I wrote.

I need to write more this year, but I am leery of making resolutions because that seems to jinx me. I have some! I'm just not talking about them in case they vanish. :x

Gues what happened yesterday when I went to check the mail! I got a Postcard! It has the most adorable Xiu on it, who sitting here watching me type. It will be coming safely into my room or hidden in a book when I sleep though, I am afraid the Dusky-cat might gnaw on it if I leave it out. Apparently it smells fascinating, she keeps sniffing.

So.

Yuletide! It is made of awesomes. I am made of far too much caffeine and too little sleep, so I have not begun to poke around properly, but here is what I've read so far! Also, html it is complicated and I'm not gonna.

My 2 gifts, both Princess Tutu and I love them forever:

Resolution - http://archiveofourown.org/works/299841

A beautiful story in which Fakir and Ahiru are (relatively) okay with who they are and what they're doing and Autor still wishes he were Drosselmeyer. Because he does and you know he does. Dork. I did not even remember how much I like the horrible little dork until I was reading this. XD

Frame Story - http://archiveofourown.org/works/290269

This is my favorite fairy tale, and I am not even sure how to be coherent because. My favorite one! And it is so insane and eeeee. What other story contains the sentence 'Losing daughters like pens.' I have this insane desire to give my pens silly princess names now. XD

I am so freaking sleepy, you just don't know. But it really is that awesome. It feels like a happily-ever-after that's real, that acknowledges that stories don't end, we just make a place to stop reading.

Also! Screw authorial intent! Sometimes authors don't know what they intend anyway. <3

Other people's stories!

To Fall In Snow, Still Burning - http://archiveofourown.org/works/298877

Yoroiden Samurai Troopers, people! The only one in the archive, this year. Go forth and smother it in lovings and adoration! It's a beautiful fic, that reads almost like another episode, and like the best of the fic that used to get written. Ryou trying to get himself killed in the pursuit of noble self-sacrifice! Touma not having it! Team to the rescue! \o/

White Blazeses disapprove of this foolishness.

we are the masks we choose to wear - http://archiveofourown.org/collections/yuletide2011/works/302809

This Alien Shore fic, people. Which, I do not even know how to start reccing this canon, but. If you would like to read a story where people who aren't neurotypical are treated like, you know, people, and have their own functioning society, and and. It's just too complicated, but this is a gorgeous fic it really is. It feels like coming home, like being safe. <3

a man in black, smirking
Sleepy and tired and frustrated with my computer - the ram has been corrupted and it's running on super-low memory and things crash without warning. >.<

But hopefully I only have 3 more days to deal with this - paycheck coming up, and I'm pretty sure if I can't cover it out of that I'll take more out of savings anyway. This is fairly horrible, and has me worried about Yuletide and the kh_drabble exchange. -.-

I just. Suddenly feel the need to rant, since I keep seeing this horrible thing where people reference the scene in which Lexaeus comes up with the idea to use Riku to counter Sora, and credit Zexion for the idea.

*hissss* Lexaeus's idea, dammit! Just because he did not say it, just because he trailed off and let Zexion follow his lead, does not mean Zexion thought of it! (Assume multiple exclamation marks here.)

Also, while I am on the subject and rather having fun venting (it may seem that I am angry here, but more amused outrage) Zexion isn't as smart as people think he is! Ooooh, he's intellectual. You have to give him that. But it's book smart and people dumb to a certain extent, most obvious in the scene where he decides that the thing to do is stick Vexen with the job of dealing with Marluxia.

Oh yes. Let's take the most volatile personality of our little trio and give him the politically sensitive job of dealing with someone whom he hates with a loathing almost beyond even our wordy mcword powers to describe! It'll be sadistically hilarious, which is just what we need when we're busy trying to figure out what's going on and stay alive! :D

Stupid stupid stupid, I don't care how intelligently he phrased it! >.<

I don't know, to me it seems painfully obvious that Even had entirely too much to do with raising Ienzo. It's the way they both look at people, including each other, as lab rats to be experimented on. :P

Guess what guess what guess what! A finished yuletide ficcer is me!

Granted, I still need a title. But that and figuring out little formatting details are details! Ones that can wait until I wake up, because right now it is time to start the game that I've been holding hostage until I got the fic finished! ...also tonight must start pinning down the kh_drabble gifty fic, which has been nibbling at the back of my mind for a couple of days. *does not poke it for fear of scaring off*

Dear Yuletide Author,

First of all, hello and thank you! I hope you're going to enjoy writing me a fic in whichever tiny fandom we have matched on. <3

I'd like to say also that if you want to include characters that I didn't choose, feel free - there is no one I really dislike in these fandoms! If you don't like lots of info, then you already have my prompts, but if you like more to go on, here we go:

likes and dislikes and squee goes here )

Thank you again, Awesome Yuletide Person! Have fun!

PROTECT IP Act Breaks The Internet from Fight for the Future on Vimeo.

BoingBoing.Net -- The MPAA, RIAA, Hollywood knows that they have been flying in CEOs of as many companies as possible, recruiting people to get petition signups at malls in California, and here's the big point-- they know they have gotten their message through to Congress -- the worst bill in Internet history, the one where government and their corporations get unbelievable power to take down sites, threaten payment processors into stopping payment to sites on a blacklist, and throw people in jail for posting ordinary content is about to pass before the end of this year. The only thing that is going to stop Hollywood from owning the Internet and everything we do, is if there is a big surprise Internet backlash starting right now.

PROTECT IP (S. 968)/SOPA (HR. 3261) creates the first system for Internet censorship - this bill has sweeping provisions that give the government and corporations leeway and legal cover for taking down sites "by accident," mistakenly, or for NOT doing "enough" to protect the interests of Hollywood. These bills that are moving very quickly through Congress and can pass before Christmas aim to give the US government and corporations the ability to block sites over infringing links posted by their users and give ISPs the release to take any means to block peoples' sites, including slowing down your connection. That's right, some say this bill is a workaround to net neutrality and is bigger than net neutrality.

This is the worst piece of Internet legislation in history - the lawmakers who have been sponsoring (Leahy, Lamar Smith, Conyers) this bill need to be shamed by the Internet community for wasting taxpayer dollars on a bill that would break the very fabric of the Internet, create an Internet blacklist, kill jobs and great startup companies, huge blogs, and social networks.

How this affects you, personally:

EFF.org -- Let’s make one thing clear from the get-go: despite all the talk about this bill being directed only toward “rogue” foreign sites, there is no question that it targets US companies as well. The bill sets up a system to punish sites allegedly “dedicated to the theft of US property.” How do you get that label? Doesn’t take much: Some portion of your site (even a single page) must
  1. be directed toward the US, and either
  2. allegedly “engage in, enable or facilitate” infringement or
  3. allegedly be taking or have taken steps to “avoid confirming a high probability” of infringement.

If an IP rightsholder (vaguely defined – could be Justin Bieber worried about his publicity rights) thinks you meet the criteria and that it is in some way harmed, it can send a notice claiming as much to the payment processors (Visa, Mastercard, Paypal etc.) and ad services you rely on.

Once they get it, they have 5 days to choke off your financial support. Of course, the payment processors and ad networks won’t be able to fine-tune their response so that only the allegedly infringing portion of your site is affected, which means your whole site will be under assault. And, it makes no difference that no judge has found you guilty of anything or that the DMCA safe harbors would shelter your conduct if the matter ever went to court. Indeed, services that have been specifically found legal, like Rapidshare, could be economically strangled via SOPA. You can file a counter-notice, but you’ve only got 5 days to do it (good luck getting solid legal advice in time) and the payment processors and ad networks have no obligation to respect it in any event. That’s because there are vigilante provisions that grant them immunity for choking off a site if they have a “reasonable belief” that some portion of the site enables infringement.

At a minimum, this means that any service that hosts user generated content is going to be under enormous pressure to actively monitor and filter that content. That’s a huge burden, and worse for services that are just getting started – the YouTubes of tomorrow that are generating jobs today. And no matter what they do, we’re going to see a flurry of notices anyway – as we’ve learned from the DMCA takedown process, content owners are more than happy to send bogus complaints. What happened to Wikileaks via voluntary censorshipStop the Internet Blacklist Legislation will now be systematized and streamlined – as long as someone, somewhere, thinks they’ve got an IP right that’s being harmed.

Stop the Internet Blacklist Legislation

Today's accomplishments:
Got my laundry done.
Got all the dishes washed.
Did a large section of the on-going difficult tub cleaning. >.<
Finally beat the Sootopolis Gym in Pokemon Emerald!

Cool things that have happened lately:
See above. ;)
Finally caught a Bagon in Emerald! I am closing in on catching everything I can in this game - soon it will just be legendaries, that elusive Ditto so I can breed my starter and send a Torchic to Heartgold, and that Beldum Steven is supposed to give me. \o/
Taking out the trash a couple of weeks ago, I startled an owl. <3

And the very coolest, so cool it needs allcaps: RONIN WARRIORS MADE IT INTO YULETIDE THIS YEAR!!!!!

I have been running canon-review as my constant background noise since I found out - I'm nearly to the end of Cheesy 80s Dub Version, and will start on subtitles when that's done. And I may not stop watching until some time after Christmas! :D

...unless my assignment turns out to be something else, in which case I will have to focus on that canon primarily. And then find out who/if anyone else requested it and at least write them a stocking stuffer. eeeeeee

Tonight's goals - bloody write something!
Possibly more cleaning, of the dusting/sweeping/prganize stuff variety.
Actually play Chrono Cross a bit more, I just really want to write something for that, I have no idea why. But I want to write something, so who really cares!
Upload this year's kh drabbles to AO3, and finally upload all the missing years of Yuletide fic. -.-;
Try to draw something, have been letting that slip - along with everything else.
Enjoy The Weekend, Dammit.

ETA: And write my requests, and do signups, and write my Dear Author letter, what is wrong with me. <.

Originally posted by [livejournal.com profile] gabrielleabelle at Mississippi Personhood Amendment
Okay, so I don't usually do this, but this is an issue near and dear to me and this is getting very little no attention in the mainstream media.

Mississippi is voting on November 8th on whether to pass Amendment 26, the "Personhood Amendment". This amendment would grant fertilized eggs and fetuses personhood status.

Putting aside the contentious issue of abortion, this would effectively outlaw birth control and criminalize women who have miscarriages. This is not a good thing.

Jackson Women's Health Organization is the only place women can get abortions in the entire state, and they are trying to launch a grassroots movement against this amendment. This doesn't just apply to Mississippi, though, as Personhood USA, the group that introduced this amendment, is trying to introduce identical amendments in all 50 states.

What's more, in Mississippi, this amendment is expected to pass. It even has Mississippi Democrats, including the Attorney General, Jim Hood, backing it.

The reason I'm posting this here is because I made a meager donation to the Jackson Women's Health Organization this morning, and I received a personal email back hours later - on a Sunday - thanking me and noting that I'm one of the first "outside" people to contribute.

So if you sometimes pass on political action because you figure that enough other people will do something to make a difference, make an exception on this one. My RSS reader is near silent on this amendment. I only found out about it through a feminist blog. The mainstream media is not reporting on it.

If there is ever a time to donate or send a letter in protest, this would be it.

What to do?

- Read up on it. Wake Up, Mississippi is the home of the grassroots effort to fight this amendment. Daily Kos also has a thorough story on it.

- If you can afford it, you can donate at the site's link.

- You can contact the Democratic National Committee to see why more of our representatives aren't speaking out against this.

- Like this Facebook page to help spread awareness.
