Hey, come to think of it--there's mention of 'magicite' in the Story Mode of Chocobo Racing! I'd wondered where they'd gotten it from!...how had I MISSED the Laguna-ness? bad, bad me! (well, we *are* still trying to get the hang of the Licenses and Gambits and...have I mentioned I like the giant froggies, too?^^ It's just like training Pokemon, man--level *past* where you think you'll need to be (I am re-learning this dealing with Yellow--they really *did* make aspects of the later games easier!)
