Well, first goal for the weekend accomplished. Even if I was up until one in the afternoon from the stupid pms-induced insomnia. x.x
Night at the Museum, yay! No, really. It was just a fun movie, nothing spectacular? But you know you're enjoying yourself when you want to shout advice to the guy on-screen. :D (What, I restrained myself!)
It was kind of weird when I recognized that the T-Rex was acting like a dog. A big, bony dog. XD But it did that begging to play bit that I was surprised I even recognized. I didn't think I had paid enough attention to dogs to catch that? But it's different from a cat's crouch, which is all coiled tension and twitching tail and 'i am Going To POUNCE!!'
But I loved the kid? He conveys so much emotion with so few lines, I was impressed.
And all the magic bringing things to life came from Egypt? :D I loved their Pharaoh, he was so... urbane. He learned English whilst on display in Cambridge! XD And he had two giant Anubis statues flanking the little model tomb they'd installed him in at the museum, leading to probably my favorite single line (approximately) :
Cecil (previous guard): "Anything's possible, son. There's a 20 foot jackal staring at you right now. Don't make eye contact!"
Well, that and the museum director chiding the patrons: Control your young!
But my favorite characters? Jedadiah the Wild West cowboy and Octavius the Roman Centurion. Miniatures in the diorama room, refusing to acknowledge their own miniature state and attempting to continue their empire-building expansionist policies in spite of the glass walls around their displays. Working on breaking down the wall that stands between them:
Octavius, directing a squad with a battering ram: We expand or die!
Jedadiah, supervising the laying of dynamite: It's Manifest Destiny, man! I can't fight it and neither can you!
They were so cute. Tiny tiny little alpha males who kept going for each other's throats as soon as they could. :P And yay, they ended up bestest friends! XD ...now where's my Jedadiah/Octavius slash? ;p
And eeee, Sacagawea! And everyone in the museum crushing on her! XD But most especially Teddy Roosevelt and the lady writing a paper about her. ^_^
After which I found my way to the Steak'n'Shake and had a delicious late breakfast/early lunch. And got lost on the way home, which ended up with my going over the detested and dangerous bridge - which won't be dangerous much longer. Only a couple of days ago, I was heading home from work with my work-friend, and we heard on NPR how they're going to be shutting it down first on one side and then the other to replace the grating, which was described as 'slippery when it rains'. At the same time:
Her: It's 'slippery' when it's dry!
Me: When it rains?! What -
And then we both had to laugh. I drove past where they've already shut down the first side, and all I can say is it took them long enough. x.x
Only now the extended exhaustion is really starting to catch up with me, and I think I'll just make some coffee and vegetate in FF12 for the rest of the night. Almost got everyone to level 30, my chosen level for plot-advancing! @.@
