Okay, maybe if I had seen this movie, I'd have been prepared for this? (Maybe also if I'd used a bit of common sense, too.)
But as it is, I have just been totally blindsided. Spent needless (though never wasted) time level building, completely unaware that once she was forced to drop the 'Ping' act, Mulan was going to kick ass. >:D
Just, opening up on them like it's nothing and Sora is almost useless, I'm depending on her to save our butts and omg. XD I don't want to leave her in China when this is done! Not fair!
Mulan, Saviour of China! ^_^
Belle and the Beast! ...and okaay, that was actually a bit creepy. Trying to turn the Beast into a Heartless so as to get hold of the resulting Nobody? eep.
And I think I'm getting the hang of this! Only took me two worlds. :P
And after deciding I needed a break and doing some reading instead, I'm still parked just before entering Olympus. Hrrrm.
It's weird, the setup they've made here. If you lose your Heart, it becomes a Heartless - whereupon the body becomes a Nobody, and no one seems quite sure what's animating them. But all sources of information encourage Sora and the others to think of them as nothing.
Which wouldn't be okay even if there wasn't that question of whether or not these are souls animating their own bodies without the Hearts attached. I've seen soul and spirit used, and whatever ultimately turns out to be animating these things, nothing it most certainly isn't.
The way they're animated is beautiful, though. There's one point of motion in common between Nobody and Heartless, and that's a certain unnatural jerkiness reminiscent of puppets. Puppets in the hands of someone who seems to be trying to overcompensate for basic ignorance of the way they work with excess energy. But where that's almost all there is to the Heartless - the most powerful of them have something like grace - the Nobodies are actually very graceful.
Aside from the fact that they look like liquid mercury.
Because they do, they're really quite beautiful in an alien sort of way - the Heartless fit into their worlds, clumsily but they match. There's not a Nobody I've seen yet that fits into the seams that way. They always look alien, other-worldly, quicksilver nightmares that would be breathtaking if it weren't for that jerking still present beneath the flow.
I almost wish we'd had a chance to see the Beast's Nobody. It would have been interesting.
And now I think I hear my Dad outside. Time for the car retrieval!
