So I'm watching Beauty and the Beast right now, three guesses why, and I can't help but notice what an asshole the Beast is. Spoiled, violent, tempermental creep. 'Every inch a monster', indeed.
And yet, I cannot help but think that the sorceress's idea here maybe was that he should never break the spell. I mean. He's violently tempermental and then you put him into this huge hulking form while everyone around him is now furniture. Furniture! If anyone really tried to stand up to him before, he could now crush them like so many matchsticks.
Also, musical numbers - an excellent way to skip character development, y/n? >:P I mean. He's yelling, she finally yells back, and the next thing we see he's all googly eyed. No sign of conversations, no ...nothing!
Also it bothers me that she is essentially expected to do the job of teaching him to be a decent human being that his parents clearly failed to. *sigh* Right now, she's teaching him to read. She's teaching a prince to read.
Wow. For all I like this movie, it also annoys the hell out of me. XD
As recompense for all that griping, have this - A Belle/Gaston story! ...no, seriously. I haven't gone insane! It's long and it's kind of complicated and it treats them both like people, with faults and good points, rather than a rather sneaky little princess (nosy much about the West Wing? Manipulating Cogsworth ring a bell? ...I knew there was a reason I feel this urge to slash her with Maleficent) and a nasty cardboard villain.

So, I don't know. It's going to take awhile for the dust in my brain to settle. Especially after Xion turns and looks at Roxas with Xemnas's eyes, because you know it raises a question.
What the hell?!
No, seriously. Who, um, provided the base material for this cloning project? *shudder*
For what she is, though, I kind of like Xion. She's calmer and a lot more sensible than Roxas - a lot. Really A Lot. Though I suspect that's because Roxas was a blank slate to begin with, which is rather worse than a mirror in that he can't just pick things up, he has to write them on. But what really strikes me is how telling that is of Sora's character, at least in KHI. He is so giving then, so open and willing to sacrifice of himself for others, that he doesn't even think to hesitate about opening up his heart to free Kairi. One of the things in KHII that bothered me was how easily he swallows the propaganda fed to him by Yen Sid, and just writes off the whole Org and potentially any other Nobody he might meet - and this felt like a look back.
And the Org.! Bastards much? I still need to read those additional reports, but I liked the little touch of Roxas setting up the boss fight. Just. That was nice.
I don't like the way Xaldin was left out of that project, but.
1.That is favoritism talking?
2. I wouldn't tell him Xion was a Replica. The man enjoys screwing with people's heads (or looks as close to it as they can get), how could they be sure he wouldn't mess with it?
Other than that, he was just. Very much what I expected, intelligent and reserved and teasing - teasing! Dropping little bits of information like he was baiting Roxas, which failed for the same reason that Zexion's bullying did, that being Roxas is Mr. Clueless. x.x Or maybe he just enjoyed watching it go over Roxas's head, but I did notice that he was the one most pushing 'you cannot feel, we don't have hearts' like it concerned him that Roxas remain in that mindset.
I just wish we'd seen him working on someone else, maybe taking a different approach. I enjoyed it very much, but still. :P
HA! Here's a thought, let's give him Roxas to train up and see what we get. mahahaha! >:D
...I wish we'd seen new worlds, actually. At all.
Saix! Who likes him a lot more now? I do! I don't know, I admire competence and determination and hard work for their own sake, and really he worked at it. Doomed from the start, partly from misplaced trust (I am looking at you Axel!) but he tried so hard. And he was so much more interesting this way than the devoted yesman vibe I got from KHII.
Axel. Oh lord, conflicted reactions much? Because speaking of hard workers! His main problem, I think, was an inability to choose. That, and the lack of honesty. Also, I got the impression that he is really not a long-term planner.
Demyx. Oh Demyx. I was not in the least surprised by you, you horrible horrible shallow self-serving slacker! If I met you in real life I would quite possibly loathe you. Why do I still like you so much, why?! XD
And you know, I'd have to say Luxord is the most detached of all of them. Seriously. Enough that it almost felt fourth-wall breaking, though I don't really care. Easily the most intelligent of the neophytes, I think. Just. I'm not sure there's all that much ambition.
Xigbar! Who is rather awesomely creepy! And I never thought he was a slacker, but. He's so freaking demanding with Roxas, he is so pushy and I don't know. I don't even really know yet, I'm going to take awhile examining him. *fetches microscope* But I know I liked what I saw, and it fits neatly with my head-canon of there having been something between Braig and Even.
Just. Imagine those two pushing each other, hyper-critical demanding little bastards that they are. eeeeeee
What? What?! I have to beat Challenges to get the secret reports I'm missing? Nooooo!
...eeem. Maybe later. I need a break. >>
