Sep. 29th, 2005 09:51 amBack from the doctor! No trouble finding the place, either. >.>;
But after we'd run through the symptoms? He doesn't think the numbness and the headaches are related. He told me that strokes and aneurysms (when a blood vessel bursts) don't usually cause headaches, or even a lot of pain, just numbness - that they've had people just come in complaining that an arm or one side of thier body has gone numb, and had to tell them 'Well... you had a stroke.' And that the big exception to that is if something happens in the brain, but that would not have gone away.
...gee I wonder how he guessed what was worrying me? ^^;;
The headaches he suspects may be migraines, and has given me a sample medication to try the next time it happens - and if one does. He was careful to stress that they don't know everything about migraines and why they happen, and that some people have had one out of nowhere and never again. But since I do remember having had headaches like this before... it won't do anything if they're not migraines, so that'll answer that question.
The hand is a little trickier. It isn't actually my hand, it's a nerve in my elbow that carries sensation to that area of my hand? He showed me where there are about three nerves that carry most sensation to your arms and when he touched the one that runs to the left side of the hand?
...that was one of the most distinctly creepy sensations I've ever felt. Seriously. It didn't hurt, really, it was just - icky. XD I don't how to describe this properly, sort of a nasty, not-quite-pain feeling that ran all the way up my forearm and my hand.
It might be anything from a bone spur developing to maybe carpal tunnel. So I'm to try changing the way I hold that arm, and keep a close eye on it, to see if it gets worse. It might also be just from the way I sleep on it, since I do tend to have it under my pillow in almost-exactly the way he was demonstrating. >.> We shall see.
I'll be going back there if/when anything else comes up, too. I was just - impressed with Dr.Arn. You might not have noticed from the entry *whistles* but he was explaining. Everything. In perfectly simple english! ^_^
And now, I crash. Because you know, I'm only overdue on sleep. @.@
...oh wait, the one last thing - I noticed on the way home, signs that I'd seen last night when I couldn't get home. Which means I passed my exit off 295, possibly several times, and just wasn't thinking clearly enough to realize it. >.< Never again with the driving on too little sleep, if I have to stop and find a bloody rest stop to nap at.
