I'm not sure? A friend, in comments above, mentions Davy Jones's locker - salvage of the treasures therein. We do know he wants and believes in the compass, he said as much to Elizabeth.
I have this vauge notion, though it doesn't seem to quite fit, that he's after some famous treasure or something. Except I can't imagine what he might be after - the only thing I remember offhand that he might think possible is the Northwest Passage, and wouldn't he want room left on his brand new map for that if he thought he could find it?
Now I'm going to end up Googling treasure hunting myself. 'What could Beckett be looking for?'
