Sep. 5th, 2004 11:43 pm*looks around at her house* Everything seems to be in one place/piece/not moving.
The trees outside, though... a rather large branch has landed on my car - and missed the windshield. <<;;
We haven't had power most of the day, and when it did come back on no one told me, and I have a headache - but. I am grateful for how well we're coming through this, so far. I could feel the wind pushing at my car on the drive home this morning - which is why I probably wouldn't have gone in tonight, even if I hadn't called to check whether we'd be open. But it means something when one of the security guys picks up the phone, and was clearly nowhere near it. I was told we shut down to minimal operations and not to come in if I didn't think it was safe. Which I gave the long and thoughtful deliberation bringing up the mental image of the branch on my car, before answering no.
It's just frustrating how stubborn they've been about this, and I think part of it is that Jacksonville has been insanely lucky for years - these things just haven't hit us, for the most part haven't been near us. And now - cue the drumrolls, please, and let's everyone be panicky! Except the management of Wal-Mart, who seemed to be under the delusion that nothing was going to happen. >.<
But I am home, in the lovely newly recirculating A/C, with some coffee (finally!) and I can just listen to the wind and the sound of occasional large objects <<;;; and my cat, who seems to think this is the most interesting thing that's happened in her short life. She keeps going up to windows to sniff, and sometimes bat at the glass as if she wants to play with the moving things out there. >> Yeah.
