Sometime last year, I noticed that spending anything over a hundred dollars tended to make me wince. In the course of making myself buy some much needed items that cost more than that, I realized what the underlying problem was. I've been living like my family did when we were kids, like money is very short and any spending is nessecarily a bad thing - which meant that little things like food and clothes, and the occasional book, were okay. But I'd get into more expensive nesscessities and start guilt tripping like I had no money.
This is going to be a hard habit to break, not so much in the spending of money, but in keeping from kicking myself over it. I should not have to guilt trip incessantly about spending money - firstly because it's my money and my decision as to what I buy, and secondly? I have a nice amount in my savings now. It's nowhere near what I'd like it to be? But then I can have fits of these arching amibitions - no wait, it ought to be: Ambitions! And on those I have no trouble being patient because there's no stretch of the imagination that would allow me to achieve those quickly.
Short of money falling from the sky. ;p
the Ambition of my savings account: Enough money to retire on for the rest of my life! Lots and lots and lots. ...boy I need to start investing some of that. >.>
But. I have a respectable amount of savings, only everything else has sort of suffered between the savings and my approach to purchasing things, which could be summed up - if it's not broken, you don't need to replace it. Even if it's dingy and beat up and is clearly on it's last legs, or in the case of clothes you really don't want to be seen in public wearing them (those become sleep-shirts and the like x.x) , if it's not actually broken, you don't need to replace it. >:/
Which is not an entirely bad thing - sometimes you can't help your situation, and you have to make due. But not buying things when you do have the money? That's not saving. That's hoarding. Not a good approach. I'm backing this truck up, now. New approach! Every paycheck, leave a $100 (or if money turns out tight, $50 - but I think I can manage a $100) in the savings, transfer the rest into the debit account. Then: Bills, food, and anything else in the range of home and/or self-improvement (health) that I can manage. New things! Nice things, that look good and serve the purpose for which they are intended - and look good!
This weekend's
At Work (which is to say, Walmart. *gag* ) A payment on my layaway! One more to go, and then I'll have a new computer, and my sister will have my current one - thus completeing all my Christmas present goals! (Shusu, will have mailed your present by then. ^^)
Gas for my poor neglected car.
Oil treatment and some fuel injector cleaner for my poor neglected car. :/ Though on the subject of, I put some oil in and the warning light went off - I'll take it for oil changing next paycheck, maybe? I'd never really looked at the automotive section at work before, there's so much stuff I can do maintance-wise myself! And all I had to do was pour in the little bottles. I could slap myself for not doing this before, except that gets into the forbidden area of, well. Guilt trips.
A new shirt and a pair of new pants. A pair of new pants I will have to exchange for a smaller size! :D I have no idea when I changed sizes, I just got what I was used to and when I went to get dressed this morning - joy! And annoyance! Because I can't wear the new ones, I had to go for an old pair which I then noticed didn't fit any better. :P But eeee - smaller pants for me! ...why does my face still look pudgy then? >:p
Another B-Daman, as I slowly build my collection in support for the show - this time it's Shield Giga. ^^
One money order = 1 bill paid
At Target! *all impressed*
A new cd shelf that should hold my dvds nicely, that is simple and smaller than the large and rather clunky thing I have now. With the broken door. See above about things that aren't quite broken - after all, it still holds the vhs tapes, doesn't it? x.x (And it cost twice as much as I meant to spend but I don't care, it's nice!) Also, shopping in Target did indeed make me droll, mostly over furniture that I can't afford and isn't really what I need, but was really elegant looking. This set that wouldn't work for me at all (can you tell I was reminding myself of that as I drooled?) , but it was this lovely brown that was dark enough to nearly be black, with nice simple silver knobs, and I wish they had more variety of furniture like that. *drool*
Some new foods to try, a type of salsa that looked interesting and some frozen spinach and artichoke purses - little stuffed pastries, they look like. But hey, I like spinach. ^^ Also, omg coffee - Cinnabon coffee! Which I did a double take at and then grabbed. I love Cinnabons! Therefore the coffee must be good! (Will report on that once I've made some)
May I just say that I am seethingly jealous of Target that they have a Starbuck's in and all we have is a stinky old McDonalds? It's not even a good McDonalds, none of my fellow employees will eat there.
And Target. Has a Starbucks. I hate them, by which I mean I almost wish I worked there, except I will not change jobs just to get closer to the coffee.I won't I won't I won't but I want to!
Books! Because I am a freaking addict and can't stop myself even though I know I need to knock it off. Clearly, I will have to stop going anywhere near bookstores until I've read a few things. >.>
At Books A Million, where I stopped to pick up the current issue of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist (# 12) , I also got Bushio - The Way of the Samurai, based on the Hagakure of Tsunetomo Yamamoto. Translated by Minoru Tanaka, and edited by Justin F. Stone.
Then Barnes and Nobles, in pursuit of Le Morte D'Arthur by Thomas Mallory! A needful purchase in pursuit of actually completing my goals for my Yuletide fic - White soaked himself in this before he wrote the Once and Future King. Even skimming an online version, I could see that. Then I read the mini-biography forward for The Book of Merlyn and well. @.@
The thing is, they were having this lovely 50 percent off sale? And since Le Morte D'Arthur was part of that sale, and here I was with my gift card with $15 still on it... XD I did good, though! I only got two extra books! The Unicorn by Nancy Hathaway, which looks to be an actual intelligent approach to the subject, with chapters on mythology, various types of unicorns from different cultures, I saw at least one area where she deals with Narwhals - this in contrast to every other book I've seen on the subject, which you can probably imagine the fairy/flowery/cutesyness of. :p
And! Talk to the Hand #?*! - The Utter Bloody Rudeness of the World Today, or Six Good Reasons to Stay Home and Bolt the Door. By Lynne Truss. That should need no explanation as to why I picked it up. ;p
Shusu? Unfortunately, there will be no Ghibli for me - I don't have TCM. Working on getting it upgraded, but it's going to take awhile. I have to have my last bill for authorizing it. Which means, not until after that bill is paid, and then I'll have to see about the money. Cable versus electricity, electricity wins. >>
But now, my slightly early lunch - I completely forgot breakfast! Yes. Food and slight relaxing with Lunar, before I begin some more cleaning and moving and rearranging - I have a bookshelf, darnit! It should have books on it, not assorted other stuff!

Date: 2006-01-13 11:18 am (UTC)You could, of course, be watching Battle B-daman right now.
Speaking of, when are we seeing b-daman pictures! When do we get to see them showing their parts to each other! :D
OMG the politics are killing me. Stupid speeches which I forgot. *blearily stares at writing*
Yay spinach. Mmmmmm.

Date: 2006-01-13 02:15 pm (UTC)Watching B-daman when?! I crashed after my lunch, I'd stayed up too late insanely trying to get my cable upgraded like, yesterday. (I think it's about that time of the month, I was that emotional. Yuck.)
*confuzzled* What B-daman pictures?! I demand - errrr - I aggresively request an explanation! ...because if you're talking about mine they're still in their boxes because I am a chicken and an idiot, and tend to buy things without playing with them. Except the Ronins, and I've had cause to regret that since I've never found Anubis's helmet after Dusky got ahold of him. :(
*feeds you writing bunnies! already stuffed with carrots!*
They were good spinachy things, too. Only, they need to be eaten right away, because if they cool off the least little bit they taste a little odd - I think it might be the pastry-wrapping, it reminded me of eggrolls. I can never finish eggrolls for the same reason, after one or two bites the whole taste just turns inedible, to me.

Date: 2006-01-14 01:00 am (UTC)Battle B-daman "B-DaBattle Mountain" at 5:00am on CN.
Me: MAHAHAHAHA.
Well, you could, like, take pictures of them in their boxes? And dude, you're not playing with your toys? Action figures, I understand, but b-daman seem to be really nicely constructed.
Spinach can be reheated in the microwave. I prefer low power. Actually, most stuff in pastry-like wraps should be warmed.

Date: 2006-01-14 02:12 am (UTC)And I'm not writing enough. x.x
Maybe I will try to put together a bdaman when I get home.
The spinach was heated! Fresh out of the oven, even! Then I went to put some laundry in and came back and ick.
