1. Still don't have all the info I need for filling out my application for financial aid. This + work = @#$%^
2. Have gotten plenty of typing done. Even some new writing, gasp.
3. Hunting for shiny pictures when stressed is very soothing, and causes me to forget what time it is. Meep.
4. I'm almost done with the Gormenghast novels! Or possibly spoiled, in which case Wilbur is doomed. However, this has nothing to do with the fact that everyone I liked is dead!! Except Dr. Prunesquallor. x.x
Now Titus has run away, the whining little abdicater, and I hope the uber-creepy cop sorts following him catch him, I really do. You have this lovely, infinitely vast place which depends upon you and the rituals surrounding you in a way creepily reminiscent of the Egypt of the Pharoahs (complete with a priest called the Master of Ritual) and you run away?! x.x
Granted, the place will not fall apart in his absence. In fact, if he ever gets back, they might have finally cleaned the place up from the Flood of Plot Device to Force Steerpike out of Hiding. Can you tell I have problems with this book? Which can be summed up really easily, actually.
Everything is a not so transparent plot device to do something or other to #$%^ Titus, and has no value outside of its bearing on Titus. It wasn't so bad in the first one, but I'm on the third one, everyone who isn't dead is left behind in Gormenghast, and I just - I don't hate Titus as much as I did Steerpike (dead, three cheers and a freaking huge party for Titus for doing the honors! :D ) but damn I'm getting sick of him.
Things from the first book, important things, have been completely forgotten! Flay, the only one who knew what happened to Fuschia & Titus's father, never told them. I had assumed part of the reason for his survival was to eventually put their minds to ease on this subject. But noooo. Keda's child was supposed to go to the old man who helped her eventually. But noooo. I'm sure there are other things I'm not even remembering, but the gap between the first book and the second is... the first felt like a world being built for its own sake.
And everything else is a stage for Titus to play in. Freaking Mary Sue, he is. *kicks the living daylights out of his Earlness*
