spokeSeen from a window in the castle that is the vast majority of my headspace: One forest, comprised of black-barked trees.
and down to the Forest, standing just outside so as to be out of range of the trees:"Neville Longbottom! Where the hell are you, I know you had something to do with this! What do you mean, bringing the Hunter's bloody Forest here?!"
And he comes out looking the typical mess of someone who's been gardening. "Um... I mean to give Gerald a safe haven away from everybody else ...and also to be able to study the trees?"
Okay, deep breaths "You know, I hate it when you won't make eye contact. The trees are evil, Neville! Bad trees, understand?"
He rolls his eyes. "They're not evil in and of themselves, you know." He pauses for a minute. "At least, I don't think so. Haven't seen any signs of it, really..."
He's trying to give me a headache. That must be it. "Okay, say you're right. Say the trees aren't evil. Much as I like him, you know Gerald Tarrant is evil. You know this! You're the one's been reading over my shoulder for the whole trilogy! And... wait. When did you end up on a first name basis with him?"
Neville, with a happy smile: "When we set up the Forest!" Then, slightly uncomfortable: "But... it's not like he asked me to do anything evil. Just offered to teach me about the trees and the other plants, in exchange for helping him."
Silence.
For several minutes.
Because I'm just staring at him.
Finally: "Okay, we really need to do something about the way your 'why' streaks just dove-tail into the most amazing naivete. And I don't mean amazing in a good way. And in the meantime, I'm going to just get Damien Vryce to stay with you anytime you want to go in there. So." o.o
Neville: "What? I don't need a minder! I-you can't do that!"
Turning away, "Watch me!"
Must get coffee. Must get breakfast. Then track down Vryce. ^^;
