Library run successful! Picked up a book on samurai and turned a couple of old ones in...

What I've been reading lately: The Tale of Genji, translated by Royall Tyler. It is... interesting so far? Very pretty language of course. The footnotes explaining things are interesting too, especially to a writer? One of the many women involved just slips in there, and the footnote says 'as if the reader already knew her. It makes one wonder how the earlier chapters were structured.' Essentially.

The wierd thing (to me at least) is that this book is making me want to re-read Tad Williams' Otherworld. And I don't know why. It just popped into my head, how would the main characters deal with it if one of the places they'd been dropped had been a Heian-era Japan scenario?

Which is rather distracting to reading, you know? I mean, Renee Sulaweyo fuming at being held up in her important quest by the layers of Heian culture is just... I have no words. Except I keep cringing at the thought of artfully decorated paper walls being torn, and Xabbu! giving her reproachful eyes. >.< The Heian is just so very distanced, everyone of any sort of ranking speaking to each other via message, through layers of intermediaries/message carriers - and Renee is so very, very direct and to the point. Xabbu would deal better. For that matter, so would Orlando Gardiner? And the list goes on...

Need to remember to dig out the phone book and look for a vet, tomorrow. Just to be sure Dusky doesn't need any shots or anything, and hopefully to learn how to trim her tiny claws. ^^ *has a lapful of sleeping kitten*

But! She's gotten a lot more active, lately - lots more play fighting, even if she doesn't know what she's doing. And she's... not much gotten bigger, she's still about the same size - which worries me a little - but she has filled out a lot? And her ears are proper kitty ears instead of little ear-shaped knots on her head? So I'm pretty sure she's okay.

And once again I manage to be on too late. O.O
