Sleepy 20 minutes before work is not a good thing. Well, 20 minutes before I really ought to be getting ready for work. I need more coffee.

When I started this, it was 20-till. Now it is 25 after. Also, it did not contain spoilerish material for Yugioh. But it does now! You are warned <<

The smart thing of course would be to take a nap - too bad trying to find information about Ryo Bakura has eaten my brain. There's only so much you can find when there isn't that much information out there, though. And from what I have found? This stems from the manga itself. There was some article I should've saved a link to, that mentions the creator...

A Paper Sword. Somewhere in here. Bascially, that when he is asked what Ryo Bakura is like, specifically Ryo - he starts talking about Bakura, Yami Bakura - Spirit of the Millenium Ring. x.x And the conclusions that can be drawn therefrom, as to how important this character actually is.

Now let's pause for a moment while I get over the total wincing indignant horror of this. Because even if you don't really liike a particular character, not to be able to give a basic description of thier personality?! >.< ...I'm actually kind of hoping he's being secretive about it for a reason? And there is so much that hasn't come out yet in America, but.

The thing that really got me started here... The portrayals of Ryo that I have come across are rather... mushy. Porr little guy who is being abused by his dark half because he just cannot stand up for himself stuff. << Start reading his arrival in the manga, and I'm really curious about how well this has been translated. Nearly every epiosde of this manga deals with some kind of game, mostly one or two eps spent in each game -except the arcs, which deal with games and their players who are part of/advance the underlying plot. I say nearly, because there has been at least one arc that I remember off hand - Jounouchi's being caught up by his old gang only had a game in it towards the end, and that was Pharaoh's trick to rescue Jou.

And not so much a game as tricking them out into the rain so they'd get electrocuted. >:) Yeah, the anime does not go into this stuff, but there's a reason you can find so many alternate-universe fics for these characters that amount to "The cast of Yugioh ends up in the psych ward where they belong!"

Ryo... in first becoming aware of the spirit in the Ring (whom I tend to refer to as 'Bakura', in case I forget to clarify at some point), rather than freaking out in the scared/whimpering fashion I'd half expected? Starts yelling at it. Who are you, what are you doing here, and Go! Away! >:o

Of course he doesn't, then I would be sad! :( His line in response to 'Get out of my body!' ? 'Now, now... don't be so cold. Believe me when I say, it feels good in here! In you!' Then he proceeds to making with the seducing-talk, in that he tells Ryo what's actually been happening to his friends who've gone into comas while gaming with him. In an annoying vauge, allusion-making fashion. He says that he's been granting Ryo's wishes, re - thinking that he wanted to play games with his friends forever, during the games. During which conversation, Ryo's face goes from >:o to more :o to <<;;; Ummm

And Ryo's game? Is called Monster World, and it amounts to a mix of Dungeons and Dragons and tabletop RPG.... he gives them little figures to move across his custom board.

This is where I stopped dead again? Because, you know... he's the DM. 'Dark Master' for Monster World, but really. He's the freaking DM, with his own board, with the scenario all set up when Yugi-tachi shows up with to play. My first question is, is this what Ryo usually does or is Bakura the one who decided to be DM?

Somehow, I doubt. One of the first things that I noticed about these two in the anime, is that Bakura is very good at passing himself off as Ryo. Mimicing speech patterns, voice tone - it's actually hard to tell who's there unless Bakura makes a point of denying that he is Ryo. Or unless we're getting a nifty 'listening to the character's thoughts' moment. << The point of this being, Bakura doesn't seem to change anything when he steps in like this, and while it might not have been necessary to stick to Ryo's usual role with new friends who don't know him that well? It also seems like something that is too much trouble to go changing.

Now I am making myself late for work with rambling thoughts. And I believe I started out meaning to come to some conclusion. Rather than just, " lalala :)~ Ryo! And Bakura *.* " But that's what it's turned into, hasn't it? ^^;

Oh well! *bounces away in her fanigirlyness, muttering about stupid job and stupid not being able to get #7 which should contain the rest of delicious intriguing story arc
