This, I have been sitting on forever. And I mean forever, like before the Avatar episode 'King of Omashu', although a lot of it got finished shortly thereafter...

Can't imagine why ;p

But then I got stupidly angsty and it never got typed up - then I started typing and being stupid about that.. >.<

So. Questions, opinions, anything from any Troopers knowledgable persons? ^^

Armor Conflicts

Rekka

  • Korin

- The light created by fire might feed Korin? Possible counter would be dirty fuel, making smoke to block out the light.

  • Kongo

- This would get ugly. Serious landscape damage. Neither fire nor earth cancel each other out, really, and at its worst? Might end up blending, i.e. magma - although that would depend on the battlefield.

  • Suiko

- This is sort of a matter/antimatter conflict, isn't it? Probably the deciding factor would be the location of the battle - by the sea or a large lake giving Suiko an advantage, and well. We've seen what happens to Rekka near a volcano. One can only hope no one would repeat that stupidity mistake.

  • Tenku

- This one scares me with the possibility of accidentally creating a firestorm. Fire needs air/oxygen to burn... but I'm not sure if it would be possible to suck the air away from a fire outside of a closed environment. Maybe create a vacuum? Counter to that, sufficient control of fire might allow one to pull the air in, to feed the fire - but again, firestorm.

I think it would take both of them cooperating to control something like that.

  • Oni

- Spring is not a good season with fire, I think. It almost seems like fire would have an unfair advantage, a sense of new growth being eaten up by flames. Although, there is also the demon factor - would it be possible to affect the armor's strength without affecting the person?

  • Gen

- Summer is good with fire. Summer would likely thrive on heat, especially a negative summer. The problem being, they'd likely feed into each other.

  • Yami

- This is also bad. It feeds off light, and cold could kill a fire - which for some reason makes me wonder about the physics of cold putting out fire? Hrm. On the other hand, surely there could be enough heat to counter the cold.

  • Doku

- Advantage Doku? I cannot imagine any good coming from fire feeding off poison. The one time, one! that we see Ryo beat him by himself in a one on one, it's by turning his own attack on him. Also, Naaza let him. >>

The rest of it's assists (Shin when he woke) or rescues - Seiji at the caves, Shin sending him away during their attack on the castle, Shin stepping in again during their attack on the castle, Shuten! XD During the end arc...

This is actually really amusing now that I think about it. Poor Ryo.

Korin

  • Kongo

- The mind blanks. It really does. ...okay, maybe dense enough earth could block light? But I don't see how that would be all that useful. Purely physical fight?

  • Suiko

- This one is almost as bad as Kongo. With enough depth (or dirty water) light wouldn't be able to penetrate. But enough light, or focused strongly enough, could evaporate water... and something is in the back of my mind about light on water creating wind? Odd.

  • Tenku

- And now my mind utterly blanks. And insists that they're very nearly the same thing. Or the mind equates them as such? Describe a place as airy and most people would assume it was also bright - but describe a place as dark and you might as well have said airless.

...I really hope this isn't, like, the main reason that Seiji and Touma get stuck together. Because that would be... wrong. Amusing, but wrong.

  • Oni

- Vaguest idea here that light would feed new growth, strengthen the armor - but maybe only if it were being used for good. Negative, I don't know.

  • Gen

- We already know Korin can see through Gen's illusions... could an illusion of darkness cancel that? I'm thinking not, but...

  • Yami

- Really, I think we saw Yami covered well enough in the series - I'm just not sure how well Korin could counter it. I mean, the physical fight is one thing, but actual armor abilities - if Yami can freeze things, could Korin un-freeze them? In sort of the way that Seiji used it to heal Ryo's sight. ...although, that would take a heck of a long time. And has given me this almost amusing image of Seiji going through a frozen forest and healing its inhabitants one by one.

  • Doku

- It strikes me that healing is primarily a defensive/recovery based power. Except in this case I think it could be used for offense, as in : if Doku really is coated in/saturated with poison, what would happen to it if Korin's healing were focused on the armor itself.

Kongo

  • Suiko

- Earth and water would under the mutually beneficial category, but they could also get merged completely, i.e. mud. Mudslide? Not good for either of them, I'm afraid. Prior to that point, though, earth could slow or absorb water and water could wash away or dissolve earth.

  • Tenku

- I can't help thinking Tenku has an advantage here. Wind wearing away rock... but I can't picture how it would work, either.

  • Oni

- Tricky. I think it's possible that Kongo could stop the attack with the chains, considering it goes into the bedrock. Just hold it down there? ...something is bothering me about Oni being spring, but I'm not sure what.

  • Gen

- Ouch. As with Korin/Yami, it's impossible not to think of this in terms of what we've already seen happen. Outside of that, I just draw a blank.

  • Yami

- And now I am getting annoyed that the series was not longer. Not just for the story, but for the fact that I'm having to write this and it occurs to me I shouldn't. We should have already seen these things happening on-screen!

...so if Yami can freeze things, would it slow down/interfere with Kongo? Say, when the attack is used to break up the earth, would it make a difference if the ground were frozen, possibly brittle?

Also, humidity would have to be a factor with this, wouldn't it? Water freezing, squeezing through the rock as the ice crystals expanded.

  • Doku

- Advantage Doku, I think. Really can't see why the acidic qualities of the attacks wouldn't just tear though Kongo's attacks. Or defenses. >>

Suiko

  • Tenku

- And here we have the potential for a hurricane! Oh joy. ... Really, any interaction with Tenku comes down to the fact that it is a bad idea to give wind something to pick up and carry. And throw back at you.

  • Oni

- This could be interesting - use Suiko's attack to hit the chains as they're coming out of the ground, and then what? Would they shatter if hit hard enough, could they be swirled into and tangled with each other?

  • Gen

- I have this disturbing image of water washing away spider webs. >.< Also... exactly how solid are Rajura's illusions - or how solid can they be? I have this feeling the location might help, there.

  • Yami

- Would it be able to freeze Suiko's attacks, is my question.

  • Doku

- Oh have we been here. Been here, done this, and yet they both could have been more creative if they hadn't been so intent on just blasting the heck out of each other! ...Nise Suiko doesn't count, he'd had a good bit of time to fume there.

Tenku

  • Oni

- >.< Although the temptation arises to completely ignore this... if Tenku's bearer knew what was coming, would he be able to shoot quickly enough to pin the chains as they came out of the ground?

  • Gen

- Now that is a simple solution to the illusion problem. "One of these has gotta hurt!"

  • Yami

- Cold would not be a problem. Snowstorms, illusions - same treatment as Gen. Which, in all cases, brings us down to hand to hand and well. This is, to put it mildly, a bad image.

  • Doku

- And this is a non-image. Read = I'm drawing a blank here.

Oni

  • Gen

- Now this would work. Like Tenku raining arrows into the illusions, it would. ...it does bring up the question, how was it established that Shuten was the strongest of the four? Single combat? Did they get to use armor powers, or was it straight physical combat?

And Shuten, who never does the illusions, or uses the armor's abilities beyond the sure-kill.

...I am not asking that just because the image of Shuten beating the rest of them without the magic has put this evil, evil smirk on my face. I'm not. Really!

  • Yami

- Er. Could the ground be frozen hard enough to stop the chains coming out of it? Aside from that, this is what a kusari-gama's for - catch the guy's sword in the chain and disarm him, then move in with the scythe. Although a sword of that size... Hrrrm.

  • Doku

- >.< Freakin' acid coated armor and this very annoying image of Shuten catching the swords - only to have them eat through the chains. Complete with respective smirks and glarings. >:P

Gen

  • Yami

- Um. Would there even be a point to either one of them trying to use illusions? ...all I can think is that this fight would get ugly, the seasons being in perfect opposition. x.x

  • Doku

- And here, I can't imagine the fight would even happen. I don't know why, I just. I poke my brain, brain says 'What - why would they fight?' <<;

Yami

  • Doku

- ...I wonder, would it be possible to freeze those poison/acid attacks of his, and would it really do any good. I mean, frozen acid would still be acidic, right?

Although there is also, this scary image of acid mixing with in a snowstorm, of any of the Troopers fighting blind in an poisonous darkness. >.< Serious damage could be done, here.

Methinks it will differ between TV period and post-TV period. (...well. Obviously.) I much prefer the post-TV period, because all these guys would have equally matched attacks, IMO. The very earliest levels of the Troopers' training cycle had them relying on elements to power up -- and towards the end they were combining attacks, changing the weather, and had aerial control of their bubble shields. As for the warlords, using their real virtues might make them even more powerful, since Arago was souping them up with evil. Their armor abilities also change after the end.

In other words, all nine warriors in the armor are too canny to rely on elemental powers alone. (Except for Seiji, who needs to change his fighting mentality to win decisively against Anubis -- Seij is too singleminded and aware of his armor's virtue. Can't go against a country guerilla with kendo dojo tactics.) If they used their armor wisely, well -- like Dragonball, there's a fighting strategy for everything. That's why the Masho were never featured again, because it'd get rather DBZ.

Also the Masho were skilled in psychological battles. If they were really head-to-head again, they'd probably get smart, skip the battle, and hold a family member hostage.

The other point is that if you shift focus from the elemental aspect to the weapons -- Touma is purely long-range, for instance. He is rather crappily armed for hand-to-hand, though he holds his own. All the sword wielders can shoot energy, very good offensively. More likely Shuten staunchly refused to use powers of illusion and got beat anyway, which would piss 'em off even more when Arago-sama chooses him as head. Arago realized the leader couldn't rely on illusions (hello, truth-seeing sword on the other side, though Kujuurou's hatred of all things Date kept Seiji distracted enough) and also was likely more tastily evil-infused with all the >:o The others seem more quiet, or quietly insane.

So... Gen vs Tenku would be very tricky for Touma; Gen is armed with like three different weapons, and unless Touma can home in on a specific target, it'd be difficult to aim against an illusion.

Gen vs Yami? Of course they'll use illusions! And webs and wolves and ice and general mayhem. You can't hit what you can't see. There is little indication that any of the illusion-users can see through other people's illusions. Same for Gen vs Doku, which would devolve into a contest to incapacitate the other one first.

Tenku vs Kongo would be an impasse. Would Shuu ever be able to get Touma out of the sky? He could always kick up dust to cover his own location. Now, now, Korin vs Tenku would be more interesting than it looks. Touma has no advantage against Korin Ken, and can only hope to stay out of range and call up cloud cover. So it turns into who can last the longest against repeated attack. They're both the smartest of the armor bearers in that they use what ought to be one-shot armors for many different things.

Touma would like to point out that his bow-and-arrow attack is a vacuum attack.

^_^ See, this makes me remember why I started working on this thing.

Nocomment. Not so much as a snerk. Really!

As for the Masho and psychological warfare... Augh, I can come up with nothing right now except, "Mmmm, psychological warfare :)~ "

The other point is that if you shift focus from the elemental aspect to the weapons

It gets even scarier, though. Because there's a third aspect here, and that's how thier virtues affect each other.

Like, what exactly happened in the first season, when Ryo and Touma are heading down and Shuten feels the surge that's going through the armors. And now I am annoyed that we don't see if there was any reaction from the other Masho, and I'm betting not. But it did seem like each armor they recovered made getting the next one a little easier - Seiji, near impossible. Shin, Rekka Ken goes to get the calvary of its own accord. Seiji getting... Shuu... nearly impossible...

You know. Maybe that thing in the caves with Ryo screaming his lungs out wasn't him at all. Maybe Seiji just has a problem getting his butt in gear. >:P

I'm sorry, I had to. That's just wrong, there. XD

I have gotten completely sidetracked, haven't I? The stuff below I typed before, I am bouncing all over the place. I will just stop here, and come back to it when I get up. @.@

And really, it needs looking at from two sides for each armor - with the Masho, we know what they were and what they should have been. But what would the Troopers' virtues be corrupted to if they went down?

Touma! Poor Touma, I was kinda not mentioning that but XD ...I would like to know why the heck Tenku doesn't have another weapon, here. It's not like they can't have multiple weapons - Gen! Suiko has that dagger. ...do we ever see him use that dagger or is it decorative? :P

Touma would like to point out that his bow-and-arrow attack is a vacuum attack.

*stares*

But see if I think about this I become confused. Like, why don't things get sucked into, besides air. Because that would have to be why the air-effects around it, but but @.@

For the third aspect, picking up at when Ryo and Touma are heading down and Shuten feels the surge that's going through the armors.

We know the guys felt it, we know Shuten felt it if imperfectly - and we know that when Shuten broke free of the pits and started heading up to help the guys, is when Ryo felt the power boost that allowed him to pull himself together. And why would it go straight to Ryo like that, why should he feel it more than the others? They didn't seem to notice anything, and even though it was the middle of the end of the world as far as they could tell, you'd think they'd notice something...

The only thing I can think of is that he's the leader.

I'm wondering now, if part of the reason Shuten was made leader wasn't simply this - he has the virtue of loyalty, however corrupted - and if that wouldn't be focused on Arago-sama, and through him keep a tighter reign on the others.

Especially since they're already focused on Shuten as an object of hatred since he's the leader and they're not. It all feeds into the link, from the other three and thier armors to Shuten and Oni, to Arago as the endpoint and ultimate focus.

Sets up a nice little cycle there, too - because the other Masho are a lot calmer? Perhaps Arago feels there is not enough evil-energy inducing anger here, and so he thinks 'How can I get them all terminally ticked off? I know...'

Ooooh, and there's why Arago got so ticked off when they questioned him about Shuten and why are you more concerned with the armor than with the man. They questioned him - and he's not thinking 'reasonable question' he's thinking 'Crap it's starting already, I'm losing them'. *panic*

*lightnings*

He's easily paranoid enough, he questions Kayura later on and there's absolutely no reason for that.

...and now I'm all thought out again. x.x But wheee, shiny thoughts!

Actually, not so much starting to lose them, as "Shuten is twigging to why I really need humans in a demon world."

Noo, not Shuten. When he's already lost Shuten, and he sends the other three to retrieve him-but-more-his armor. And they question him, summed up- "Why are you specifying that we retrieve the armor as opposed to Shuten?"

And Arago responds - "RAR!" *zaps all three* "Now shut up and GO!"

Did the three guys react to Touma or Ryo when they were meatballing back into the atmosphere?

The reaction starts when Tenku wakes up and knocks Ryo/Rekka into the bubble with it. Like a brief flash of them going - "I feel something, but whaaa?"

Then cut to the guys again, full understanding as they notice the light coming down.

Then cut to Shuten, who doesn't understand and comes to the conclusion that he's reacting because he really needs to kick Ryo's butt that badly - Arago showing after he leaves, and he does get it.

this is all lovely daisychaining, really--and I recognize most of the names!...but, who or what is Nise? o.O (do the weapons have names, too? argh, I am still looking for our RW tape!)

Technically, the weapons would be referred to armor+weapon type, hence 'Korin Ken' = Korin's sword.

Nise - the fake Suiko, Torrent ^^
