spoke: spider with a pen on a book (Listen to meeee!)
The last few days, we have had general rain interrupted by occasional bouts of 'Hello down there! Are you frying yet?'

This has been causing things to come in the house. Assorted things, mostly of the insect variety. I think any rodent-types have the sense to stay out of a house with a cat in it. ^_^

Unfortunately. My cat thinks spiders are the coolest damn thing ever. She makes this plaintive mewing. It used to be when she'd gotten herself stuck in a room, and needed me to come let her dumb butt out. The first time I came into the bathroom, thinking 'Dumb cat. C'mon, you never get stuck in there!'

And found the door open. And her perched on the toilet seat, looking up.

You would think some sort of 'bad-feeling' instinct would kick in here. Since I know cats are fascinated by small/fast/strangely moving anythings. But nooo. I look up.

*&%$#@ OMG %$#@ WOLF SPIDER!!!

And the drama ensues, with me having a heart attack and probably the spider having a heart attack, before it DIES, but you know if I cared about the spider I wouldn't freak out like that now would I? >.<

And then the spider dies and all is well. Gooood kitty!

...er, no. Because it might have been the next day, or the day after that. She finds another. o.o This is a bit freaky, I don't remember them coming in groups like this (1 spider = omg 2 spiders = omg they're invading!!! :( 3 spiders = small army, there goes the neighborhood, god save us all!!) but okay, so I kill this one. And kinda notice that she's looking around like, 'hey where'd it go?'.

Then. She finds another. Spread out on the living room roof where I cannot reach it with the wonderousness that is bug spray, so I have to go and get a broom. And I knocked it on the floor, and she starts jumping and batting at it. And it suddenly clicks in my brain, she wasn't trying to get me because it was dangerous, &%$#@ cat wanted to come and get this cool toy she can't reach!!

AAAAUUGGGHHH!!! >:O

x.x So I killed that one. And while I feel marginally better because, you know, I have this verifiable body count now? Still.

Enough with the freaking spiders already! ;_; If this keeps, I'll start having trouble sleeping!

...I'm sure I meant to say something else in this post. >> Perhaps later I will remember what that was.

So. What I meant to talk about, when I got distracted by the spiders. x.x

I love the rain. I really, really do. And walking out to my car yesterday, I had to splash through the yard, with the rain pouring down, and I was just that tempted to call in. I didn't even realize it had been raining that much. I mean, I knew we had water standing in the ditches, but this.

Between me and my car, there is a tiny wooden 'bridge' and that term can only be applied in the strictest dictionary sense, in that it spans a gap between two spaces. Two spaces that one could normally jump over, no problem. This time, I put my foot on it? The whole thing bucks. It's come loose from the spots where it's wedged into the banks. So I walk all the way around, out of our yard and down the side of the road and up the dirt road that is now a small muddy river, in order to reach the car. Listening to the rain pouring and the sound of frogs, and really just wishing I could call in and walk around in the rain. It was so nice.

And then I had to work all night with my shoes and socks slowly drying. After I'd wrung out the socks. >.< Tonight I'll be wearing old shoes and stick my good ones in a bag, so I can change when I get to work.

But when I got home, everything looked clean and soaked through, and I was able to walk across the bridge - and startled a huge frog into jumping into the river - the sort of loud splash I'd have expected from a fish. I was even looking for one until I noticed the frog swimming to the other side. ^_^

I love rain.
