but Galadriel, the only woman of the Noldor to stand that day tall and valiant amoung the contending princes, was eager to be gone. No oaths she swore, but the words of Feanor concerning Middle-earth had kindled in her heart, for she yearned to see the wild unguarded lands and rule there a realm at her own will.
It goes on to describe the Noldor leaving Valinor, and the slaying of the Teleri, and so on - including the point at the Helcaraxe, where they had the choice of the straits (too few ships for everyone( (...?) and the land itself, which was nasty - Ungoliant had been there, for one thing. Whereupon Feanor decided to ditch half the host, only he didn't tell his sons that. He only took them, and when the eldest asked who they should send back for the rest of them, he laughed. -laughed as one fey, and he cried, "None and none!" and ordered the burning of the ships.
Of course, those left behind saw the fire of the ships, and knew what had happened.
The fire of thier hearts was young, and led by Fingolfin and his sons, and Finrod and Galadriel, they dared to pass into the bitterest north; and finding no other way they endured at last the terror of the Helcaraxe and the cruel hills of ice. Few of the deeds of the Noldor thereafter surpassed that desperate crossing in hardihood or woe. There Elenwe the wife of Turgon was lost, and many others perished also; and it was with a lessened host that Fingolfin set foot at last upon the Outer Lands. Small love for Feanor or his sons had those that marched at last behind him, and blew thier trumpets in Middle-earth at the first rising of the Moon.
(so it was the Moon and not the Sun. I don't care! #^^# )
Otherwise, managed to get about half the cleaning and sorting of stuff I meant to done... I got derailed by a jigsaw puzzle. Puzzle! :D
Why, I wondered, had I not played with this more often? And the answer is - I suck at puzzles. XD I was at that thing literally three hours. If I hadn't been also playing Lunar, I might've gone a little faster.. or I might have gone stark raving mad.
There was cussing.
And blocking the cat out of the room because she insisted on attacking my hand trying to get me to play.
But I'd be damned before I didn't finish that puzzle. RAR!! ...yeah. >.> I really shouldn't touch those things, they have a bad effect on me. XD
