Well, I couldn't pick one favorite, so I'll just organize by series. ;p
Kaiba Seto: Does ego-tripping really count as insanity? ;p
Because he is a cat-person, and remains such in spite of the rest of the cast being a pack of dogs. Dogs I tell you! Because only a dog-type could beat the freaking hell out of the guy and expect that to make them friends. *stabs both Yugi and the Pharaoh*
Because he is intensely and forever loyal to his own, (Mokuba, Blue Eyes White Dragon, Yugi) even when reincarnation makes them almost impossible to live with. ;p
Cross him once and he never forgets.
Because in spite of all that, the shape of his ka? The monster that represents his soul? Is a warrior who takes down his own allies to double his strength. Self-contradictory much?
Because in spite of both Yugi and Mokuba's views on the subject, he does enjoy his job. The only time he gets that happy evil smirk on his face outside of dueling? Work. XD
Because the only time you see a real smile on his face is when he's looking at Mokuba.
Because he can throw down anyone he comes up against, except. Yugi. And he cheats!!! ...better than Seto. >;p
Because he has skills that actually serve him in life instead of just in games, and he used them - to make a living out of games. I would so go to Kaiba-land. :D
And also he is damn hot. *purrs*
Bakura & Ryou: Now, we know they're insane. Because nobody goes through something like Kul Elna and comes out of it healthy and stable. ;p
Because Ryou is a freak and quite happy with that: "Oh look, it's a horribly disgusting monster! Yay!" "Hrrrmmm. To put on the evil Ring that stole all my old friends souls, or n... forget it *wears*" "Oh dear, Pegasus is about to kill Yugi isn't he? *stares* *worry-like. but staring* " "Look, I'm bleeding, isn't it interesting? :D"
Bakura - was probably raised by the ghosts after Kul Elna, and certainly talks to them - consoling them about the presence of nasty evil Item-wielders in the village, having them levitate Items to him in the middle of the fight, etc
Ryou - writes letters to his dead sister. Some part of his mind probably wonders why she doesn't write back, all things considered.
They have this bloody single-mindedness in the pursuit of their goals - Bakura's is obvious because he is the more obvious of the two.drama queen But Ryou? Invited himself to Duelist Kingdom because he wanted to know about the Items, and I wouldn't put it past him to have agreed to build the final game because he's being bribed with the answers he's after. (Either that or he already got them, in which case... )
Bakura's purity in spite of (because of?) the insanity. The man is a tomb robber, is everything evil in Egyptian, and yet he has a holy ka. The definition of good as being true to oneself remains completely beyond the rest of the characters of the show, however. ...well, possibilities for getting it: Seto definitely, Anzu possibly.
For the way he (and I mean both of them) lies and lies, and yet it's never outright - they always manage to twist the truth, Ryou with little white lies and Bakura, well. He knows what's doing, jerk.
Because for all their love of and attention to detail? In the heat of the moment, it all goes to hell and what replaces it is drama and explosions and general wonderful Chaos. Things just get really shiny when either one of them is on a tear, and I wish we saw more of that from Ryou. Really the only time yet is when he kicked Bakura's butt in Monster World. Not fair!
For the way that even though they seem completely unalike at first glance, leading to the ideas about them that are best expressed by the Change of Heart card? Really their mannerisms and expressions are closer to each other than Yugi and the Pharaoh's are. Same flat eyed angry glare, same way of holding their hands, and the smiles are freaking scary. My favorite thus far has been Millennium World, when the Pharaoh follows Bakura up a small mountain to lecture him - and Thief King Bakura announces "None of that matters... because I win!" with Ryou's extra-sweet, eyes closed and head slightly tilted smile while his ka takes the cliff out from the under the Pharaoh. omg, love.
Because he plays with dolls. Everyone else kills their enemies, or drives them insane, or takes control of their minds! And he steals their souls and makes themfigurines dollies for his Monster World game. And if you've seen him threatening one of said pieces to make it play its role instead of calling for help? Dude o.o XD
Because no matter what, he's pretty. He can have this huge scar on his face and be eating raw garlic and generally radiating masculine, and somehow? He's still pretty. And this kills me. ;p
Koma Toshiotada, aka Shuten: For pride and ego and the strength to swallow them both upon realizing he was wrong. For being the first traitor I ever saw that I didn't hate for it, and starting a tangled line of thought in my brain that has not ended to this day.
For telling off the boss. ;p
For being gorgeous, and being penitent, and being touched when Jun wanted him to stay. For not killing Rajura, when probably that was smart-ass's idea - 'if I beat him, I win and take him home. If he beats me, and kills me, I still win because he isn't what he's trying to be and he proved it.' Because that could never have worked because he loves him. *heartbroken*
For everything.
Shuu whose first name shall remain unacknowledged ;p : For being waaay too enthusiastic about blowing stuff up... and about eating... and about everything! :D :D :D For flipping into the other end of the spectrum when he starts thinking, and thinking more than he's really given credit for - though how depth in Earth can be unexpected, I never got. ;p For arguing strategy with Touma, just because he really wanted to blow something up and get a move on. For nearly causing Seiji to lose his cool, because swallowing a whole hamburger is that funny! For always fighting, always.
Kuroda Jirougorou, aka Rajura: For unexpectedly (really unexpectedly ;p) growing on me. For screwing with Shuu's head, though, always. For the constant insane smirking while talking to Arago. XD For trying to play them all, and being the only one to admit it when the last three went into the barges. For the raven that only shows up when he's screwing with Shuu's head. For loving Shuten so much he would not let go, even though he got his ass handed to him for the trouble, and even though I think as mentioned above - that he was being manipulative in that as well.
