Meme time! :)
1. Reply to this post, and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.
Ermmm... there is a tiny bit of cussing, for anyone who might like to be warned of such a thing.
Or: No, seriously - I am on-topic!

This is my plushie spider! Yes, I have a plushie spider. I found him at the zoo the last time my sister and her kids visited, and the entire extended family trooped out there. It was noisy and fun and exhausting, in no small part because I was sick at the time and hadn't realized it yet. Once I'd recovered (and everyone had packed out of the house) I proceeded to take many silly pictures of my spider, because well. I like spiders! And I'd never imagined there was such a thing as a plushie spider. He was the last one, and in the back of my mind I think he was there waiting for me. <3
It's hard to tell because the icon smushes the image, but he's sitting on top of an Egyptian mythology book. And holding a nice burgundy ink pen. Spider = muse. Which makes me feel kind of overly optimistic in using it for my default icon, but. It is kind of a way of poking myself to write, and also makes me smile.

Oh, YGO my second favoritest of fandoms. And the one that most easily eats my brain. That eye he's licking? Was ripped out of a guy's head. I like to think while he was still alive, but that's possibly because I'm a little bit sadistic. This was made for me by my best friend
shusu, back when YGO was still actively running and there was much hanging out at playthedamncard and waiting for new episodes.
It is still one of my favorite icons and my favorite images : as the heroes walk away, Bakura (the unsuspected villain) pulls out his little treasure and licks it. This one is kind of giddy laughter/sillyness/I'm not sure I should be amused! But I am. <3

This? Is the same character, and yet in many ways not. In any case of manga translated to anime, you except some slippage? But seriously, the difference between them in this case is like the difference between an original work and a cracked out fanfic. The anime is distorted cotton candy insanity sometimes, and the manga is fairly dark. One of the things about Bakura that speaks to me is that in both lives he is a creative sort that has been damaged - first in the Egyptian heritage, where he is one of the descendants of the Pharaohs own craftsmen, in a village that had been abandoned by said hierarchy (they survive by robbing the tombs) and then is subjected to a slaughter of which he is the only survivor. Then in modern Japan, where his father is an archaeologist (again something of a heritage of both reverence for and thieving from the past!) and his mother and sister Amane are dead - and he still writes letters to Amane.
The image is of Bakura in the ruins of his village, communing with the ghosts of the villagers over their approaching enemies. It is so disturbingly, beautifully homey - I mean... I'm not even sure what I mean. Just the image struck me so viscerally I had to scan it and try to give it a color, his color. This one I use for hurting, and anger, and a kind of grim/happy determination. I think I need to change the keywords for it, because it's not as negative as it seems. It's just nowhere near fluffy. ;)

This is Vexen, from Kingdom Hearts : Chain of Memories. Fandom ranking (for the KH series in general) #3! (If anyone is curious, #1 is Samurai Troopers/Ronin Warriors. <3s forever and ever, and damn I need an icon from that!) Vexen is a mad scientist - yay mad scientists! Also scientists in general, but mad ones tend to be more fun. That said, I think all the original six were a bit mad - sane people do not decide to go tampering with the nature of reality like that. I do not like the way I see him portrayed in some fanfictions (a lot of them x.x) as being almost stereotypically, stupidly dorky and lacking in self confidence. To the extent of lacking balls, almost. >:/
I think a lot of that irritation comes from the fact that my head canon goes like this: Vexen would like to be a serious, calm, scholarly type 100% of the time, but he's got a bit too much energy for it and has never really developed an outlet for that. The man has no hobbies. :P If he ever let himself relax, he'd be a bit more like Xigbar than he cares to admit, and it's led to this thing, starting when they were Even and Braig, where they're sniping at each other and competing scientifically (because no matter how much he pesters Braig can't get really him to play other games ;p) until they get on everyone else's last freaking nerve. Hence being separted for the project at Castle Oblivion - it being believed that sending both of them might result in the blowing up of the Castle. (For Braig's part, he's got a bit of a crush on Even and won't admit it because he can't get Even to relax enough to admit it - Dilan knows, though. And that's a bad thing because he's a bit of sadistic little jerk who gets off on manipulating the both of them. I don't think he's aware that he's a bit jealous of Even, and I'm still not sure if it's sexual jealously or just not wanting to share his friend.)
Why have I not written this out properly. Or more of it. x.x
Aaaanyway. Icon is because that smirk, which you sadly cannot see properly in the icon, is The Smirk. The one where Zexion and Lexaeus are about to move any delicate experiments and special equipment away from him lest he hijack their stuff. (He's an arrogant little cuss, and nothing you're doing can possibly be as important as his Project.) The one where Braig knew he was about to have his ass handed to him in whatever the current completion might be, and it's time to get a move on. It is the 'I am so clever and smart and smirky/ Look What I Can Do!' icon. ^^;

Dragon Cave! Yay for pixel pets? ^^; I mean. It's an origami dragon, who doesn't love an origami dragon. Seeing as it combines both paper and dragons, two of the most wonderful things ever? :D I made this in a fit of squee (as is the case with most things I finish... hrrrm.) when I finally caught one. Her name is Inkydink, and she's still sitting on my profile page to cheer me with her cuteness and link hapless people to the addiction that is DC. What can I say, I'm an enabler. ^^;;;
...I'm not exactly sure what I use this for, actually. Cuteness? Squeeing! I know I made it for a community here, but now I do most of my DC stuff on insanejournal. Where I also already use this one. ...but she's so cuuuute! *clings to icon*
