Dear Yuletide Writer,
Hello awesome person! First of all, know that whatever you write, I will love it. For you are a Yuletide writer, bringing much needed rare fiction to the world! Enjoy yourself writing, and know that I will enjoy reading it. ;)
Things that I like: Character development - who is this person and why do they behave the way they do?
World-building and exploration - I tend to end up in fandom of huge places and large casts - what's everyone else up to while Our Heroine (or Hero) is on the main quest? What's daily life like in this fascinating location that the cast just kind of passed through? I love land, and the way plants and animals and even the light varies from one place to another, so any story that makes me believe its land catches my heart.
Alternate realites/fusions/crossovers* that take these things into account - wherein who a person is does change somewhat because of the circumstances, for example Seiji from RW is so very formal because of the rank of his family and the expectations placed on him. Who he might have become if he hadn't had that pressure, or how he would've developed differently if he'd faced different responsibilities, does interest me. How much of a person is innate, and how much is a part of the essentially narrative structure of our lives? How much of our story do we tell, and how much is told to us?
Characters who smile like it's a weapon, because it is - and you can do a lot more damage when you're happy, and you have that energy, than you ever could sad/linefacing. (Note that this applies to villains too.)
* A list of fandoms that I know and would love to see in crossovers, only if you are so inclined, will be at the bottom.
Things that I don't like: I don't care for mpreg. Or vore. And if you do not know what that is, lucky you - don't go looking. If you happen to like it, that's cool too. Just not my thing. -.-
Wounds that never heal. I like angst sometimes, if it's believeable, but there comes a point when it feels like a character is holding onto an angst blanket instead of a security one, and using it to avoid moving on.
And now for fandom-specfic:
Ronin Warriors/Samurai Troopers: My oldest fandom, for which I admit I have gotten awesome fic in the past. As such, there are plenty of character-specific things in past letters, if you wish to use the yuletide tag. :)
This year I just really want team-fic. A new supernatural enemy invading! Supernatural occurrences that have nothing to do with invasions, and the resultant confusion! A vacation gone horribly awry, forcing the rest of the team to come to the rescue of whomever! Maybe holding the annual reunion in the youjaikai this year wasn't the hottest idea. Also on that note, if you feel inclined to include the Warlords, don't hesitate - I love them too. :)
Winter Song by Sara Bareilles:
omgosh, this video. This teeny tiny video and its adorable little world and its two girls who I ship like a cuddly cuddly thing. XD What is even going on! How does a giant leaf even support people's weight anyway! Does suddenly becoming a treehouse damage thier home, or does it just sort of. Get put down come winter. Who are they, and why are they living in a house in the woods all alone!
Nightwatch: Oh my god I have feelings about this fandom. Intensely negative feelings, really, that I did not expect until I tried to start writing the request. Which I don't think are going to end up as teel deer as I expected, but it boils down to this:
Winter, to me, comes across as a crazy cult-leading bastard who needed to be put down long before it happened. His people are almost worse, because they sacrificed their children to this madman's ideas about what the world is and how it should behave. Their children. What kind of parent (hi, Nick) takes their child down to the bridge knowing what could happen - and if the child has an angel, and that's already showing, some of these people had to have known.
My heart aches for those children, all the bird-gods (I refuse to call them demons) of the North Side. Tell me about Woodpecker and the Harrier, and their evident interest in humans, and possibly in the lives they might have had. Tell me about Magpie, and how she came to be Nick's familiar instead of an actual bird. (If you hadn't noticed, we're told in the beginning that there are 13 birds, but at the end only 12 show - I don't think it's an accident that she has a bird's name.)
Tell me about the ones who don't care about the humanity that didn't care about them, and how they interact with the other powers that are rumored to exist on the North Side, that Winter sacrificed himself to in the beginning.
Or tell me about the Forest, and Raining growing up in it, growing up in that living, breathing, thinking world. Or tell me about Emily, watching the world change, and if she ever comes to a greater understanding of Winter - it really irked me at the end when she said he had tried to change too much, and in the end he couldn't do it anymore, when the whole problem was that he refused to change, and dragged them into that darkness with him.
Or tell me about Claire, growing up in the Southside and fighting their horrible attitudes about the magic, and how Chinatown might have (must have, given her epilogue with her daughter) helped her heal from that.
Parasite Eve: Sing me a story? I love music, and one of the things that first got me about this world is the way the music is woven into the story. Tell about Eve listening to Melissa as she wakes, or the ghost of Maya listening to it all. Tell me about Aya sensing it, and if there is a harmony between her and Eve/Melissa or a dissonance. Whatever if it is you love about this game, if this is the one we matched on, let it sing. <3
*Totally optional crossovers list!
Any of the above, naturally. <3
Megaman Legends
Kingdom Hearts (which is a world made of crossovers that doesn't see enough of them in my opinion)
Discworld
Chrono Trigger/Cross
Books of the Raksura, which just begs for fusion fic.
His Dark Materials
Breath of Fire IV, or III
Final Fantasy 6 or 9
Professor Layton (although I will admit that this is kind of a crack/humor fic thought, because it's hard not to imagine hilarity resulting.)
